Mama Kat's Writing Workshop

Mama's Losin' ItI've been trying to focus more on writing actual content posts, instead of just product reviews, giveaways and answering meme questions.  Not that there is anything wrong with product reviews, giveaways and answering meme questions.  I suppose it's sort of the lazy approach to blogging, and it probably really doesn't tell anyone very much about me.  Since this is my blog I kinda wanna write about me, but I'm so indecisive that I can never settle on a topic, well I can but very rarely. So I have decided to do the whole Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop thing.  I'm sure you've all heard of it, because the word around the street is that it's pretty much world famous.  And by street I mean that I read it on the button for, you guessed it, Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop...I don't think she would lie to me though, not about something that important...so it has to be pretty much world famous, because I refuse to believe that Mama Kat would hoodwink me into taking part in her writers workshop with lies about it being world renowned.

I chose the first writers prompt, because I think it would be the easiest for me to write about.  I used to write all the time, but I really haven't written anything in a while and I want to start with something fairly easy for me, so that I can get back into the swing of the whole writing thing.  I typically write prose, but I've had such a huge block for over a year and it's just frustrating for me.  It seems as though every time I try to write anything for the last year and a half I hate it, it doesn't come out like it's supposed to for some reason.  Perhaps I'm psyching myself out, I don't know.  I'm hoping the writers workshop will help me with this a bit, because I miss writing.

1.) Write about your wedding song. What was it and why did you choose it?

I was 19 when I got married and we thought it would be really "cool" to get married at the court house. Sure my Daddy didn't attend and there was the part where the Judge asked who was giving me away and I had to have my best friend Josh do the honors, and of course there was the witty, sarcastic exchange of words between Josh and I, which ended up making it an even more bizarre moment than it already was. I had a one week long engagement because the *ahem* wedding venue was booked solid until that day.  I had one week to plan the wedding, and by wedding I mean reception.  This will probably shock and surprise many of you out there, there is relatively no planning involved with a wedding ceremony at the court house.  You can forget about having a candle lighting ceremony or releasing doves at the end of your wedding ceremony, cause trust me they will give you the strangest look when you walk through the court house doors carrying large bird cages filled with doves.  Apparently they also don't allow pets in the court house?  Don't bother to try to explain that they are for your wedding, because they'll get even angrier that you're planning to release the doves in the judges chambers.

After we were married we went to my brothers house where he and my sister-in-law held a small reception for close family and friends.  We were living with them at the time, while we were looking for a place to live up there.  So all of our friends ended up in our bedroom listening to music.  I wanted everyone to listen to this local band from North Carolina I had discovered about 9 months before, so we listened to my favorite song by them.  In case you're wondering the band is Astrid Haven and the song was called Wicked New Fetish.  I believe the opening line went something like "Welcome to the glitter fuck opera, everybody on your hands and knees."  Yeah.  Not a very sweet or romantic song, right?  It would probably sound even worse to fill you in on the next line of the song that goes "and don't be stingy with the std's" so I won't even mention it.

I was under the impression that Justin and I would have another wedding, a real wedding on our 1st year anniversary.  Plans change as your life changes though and I was very pregnant on our first anniversary.  August 15, 2010 is my 5 year wedding anniversary, and still no real wedding for me.  Sometimes I think I missed out.  When Justin's sister played me the song that was going to be her wedding song I got kind of wistful, thinking about what my wedding would have been like if I hadn't been determined to do everything my way, if I had been more willing to not be so "different" from everyone else.

So there you have it, the story about my unofficial wedding song, a bit of info on my actual wedding and the song I would have chosen if I had planned a traditional wedding.

Hey Ashlee, this was nice to read! Wow, you got married at 19. That is pretty neat! I wanted to get married younger, but did not find the right guy. I gave you an award! Come and get it!

Great story. My brother/SIL got married by the mayor at the townhall, so I get the whole "what ceremony?" thing!
