Really, Jillian?

Jillian Michaels was featured on the cover of the May 2010 issue of Women's Health recently. She made a very controversial statement in her interview that has mothers everywhere all up in arms about it. In the current issue of Woman's Health the Biggest Loser trainer talks about not wanting to ruin her body with pregnancy and adoption.

“I’m going to adopt. I can’t handle doing that to my body,” she said, later adding “Also, when you rescue something, it’s like rescuing a part of yourself.”

I can't help but think she's talking about getting an abused dog from a shelter with the way that she phrased that last quote. It's an interesting concept, given that a lot of her peers in the industry have had children and end up looking even more fierce after they had their children. Yes, pregnancy does change your body. Not always for the worse though. Some people don't have hips, a butt or boobs before they get pregnant and have their babies. Some women come out the other side with a Kim K booty, don't ask me how they do it because I wasn't blessed like that.

I'm not offended by what she said as a mother. I don't look that bad, no matter what Jillian Michaels seems to think. ;) I just think it might not have been the smartest business decision she's ever made. Everyone I know who uses her videos and products is a Mother. Mothers can be quite the catty, fickle and vicious creatures when they feel they have been attacked or wrongly categorized as all frumpy soccer Moms with a muffin top an fat rolls spilling out everywhere. That's how some women feel about the statements made by the fitness guru.

She's risking alienating a good portion of what was a very loyal following. I love her videos, and will continue to use them. Ole' girl is good at what she does, and I'm a whatever floats your boat kinda girl. I've read and heard lots of other mothers saying that they will no longer be using her products though. Not because they don't support her, or any persons right to adopt, but because they kinda feel insulted and attacked.

What say you?

I think this is because she's secretly a man. Just saying. Also, she nearly received my "Douche of the Week" award for this, but there were more pressing controversies. ;)

Haha! That's part of the reason I'm not personally offended, I'm so not a fan of the body type that she has. While I do like to be in shape, thin and at a healthy weight...well healthy in general, I also enjoy being curvy and soft and feminine. You know?! I mean, I don't want "rock hard abs" or anything like that.

Hadn't heard she said that. Personally I think she's an evil woman but that might have to do more with the fact that one day of the shred almost killed me. Found you through Friday Follow. I hope you'll follow back at http://www.amundsenhouseofchaos.com

I think my body COULD recover from three pregnancies. What feeds my body inadequacies is motherhood. It's so all-consuming that I find little time for anything that pleasures me ... except food!
